Please pass the gavel to your new President.

President

[ name of President ] having been elected the President of Operations Orators #9344 you are the chief executive officer. You preside at all club meetings and all meetings of the club executive committee. It is your challenge to see that this club adds new members and meets the needs of its current members to achieve their communication and leadership goals. Your focus is to establish a club climate that is supportive, stimulating, and rewarding to its members. Among the resources available to you are your fellow Club members, your Officer Team, your Club Officer’s handbook, your Area Governor, Tom Pickering, your Division Governor, District Governor Michelle Rich, the District website: http://www.toastmasters60.org/, and your District 60 Officers.

You hold the gavel as a symbol of the power and authority that your club has given you during your term of office. I am confident that you will use it wisely and with restraint.

[ name of President ] as a member of Operations Orators #9344 as well as its leader, will you work with your Executive team and club members to make Operations Orators #9344 a President’s Distinguished club this year.

(Acknowledge response, …)

Operations Orators members please stand. Your Officer team has just pledged to serve this club to the best of its ability. To be the best Toastmasters Club possible and to meet the needs of all its members, your Club will need active participation from each member. Do you as members pledge to work together with your Officer team to make Operations Orators #9344 the finest Toastmasters club it can possibly be?

(Acknowledge response, …)

By the authority vested in me on behalf of your area governor, it is my sincere pleasure to declare these Toastmasters Officers installed in their respective Club Offices.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to the Operations Orators #9344 Club Executive Team for this Toastmasters year.

   3. Problem / Solution — What business problem are you helping to provide a solution for?
4. Evidence — What evidence are you offering to support your solution?

Other review comments:

    * When presenting data, pay particular particular attention to what is new or different.
* Drive action. Or in Abela’s words: “What does it allow them to start doing, stop doing, or continue doing that would be difficult or impossible without this information.” (p47)
* Respecting the challenges faced by users. Understand what problems and levers the audience has available to them.
* Consider your audience “type”. How does the audience best absorb information?
* Consider the presentation environment. In what context will the audience be engaging with the information?
* Use different types of data (e.g. statistical, anecdotal). Sometimes specific data points can help focus attention better than an aggregate metric.
* Identify problems, then give people the tools to address the problem. This parallels Abela’s storytelling technique of creating and resolving tension.
* Users before technology. Usability before features. Abela notes: “Presentation and advice and tools have been developed for the benefit of the presenter, not the audience.” (p5)

All internet based - but could include videos of the speakers to review. YouTube would work if they could manage that.

Collection is also all internet based.

Partners could manage communication and scheduling from an internet site.
